Understand what changes minimum quantities and how to ask for a quote.

MOQ means minimum order quantity, but it is not one number that applies to every headband or every factory. It can depend on materials, production setup, printing, special trims, colors and whether the product already exists. A low headline MOQ is only helpful when its assumptions are clear.
Ask “minimum of what?”
A supplier might quote a minimum per style, per color, per custom material or per logo/packaging run. A total order of 500 pieces split across ten colors may be much harder to make than 500 pieces in one approved color. Ask for the split conditions in writing.
Four variables that typically change feasibility
- Existing catalog style: availability and mixed-style packing may make a test collection easier to assemble.
- Exclusive material or color: textile minimums may apply even when the finished product is a small piece.
- Special decoration: acrylic stones, custom clasps and printing methods can introduce separate supply minimums.
- Packaging: printed tags and boxes may have different supplier minimums from the headbands themselves.
Request a comparable quote
For two designs to be compared fairly, provide the same destination country, quantity breakdown, approved product reference, packing plan, requested Incoterm and target shipment date. Ask for a separate line when sample fees, tooling, logistics or branded packaging are excluded.
Do not substitute an old spreadsheet cost for an export quotation
Historical RMB procurement or suggested retail values do not establish the current wholesale price. Freight, commercial packing, exchange rates, taxes, duties, documentation, currency and terms can change the landed cost. Final quote details must be agreed against the precise SKU and revision.
How to brief a small first collection
- Choose three to six product directions rather than spreading a test order across dozens of unconfirmed variants.
- Identify a maximum budget and target retail category.
- List the expected quantity for each style and color.
- Mark what must be customized and what can stay standard.
- Ask the supplier to identify which minimums are flexible and which are fixed by upstream inputs.
You can start from the 39 WLACC catalog references and request a realistic shortlist. Minimums and lead times are quoted for each order and chosen SKU, rather than advertised as one blanket number.
Buyer questions
Is MOQ always per order?
No. The basis can be per style, per color or per process. Ask the supplier to put the breakdown in a written quote.
Are old catalog prices current FOB prices?
No. An old local procurement price does not include the commercial assumptions needed for an export quotation.
Need a collection with your brand on it?
Share a reference, target market, preferred materials and expected quantity. We will discuss a practical route rather than assume a price or minimum.
